Research Team
Janet co-leads the ANU IDM Team and contributes to Program management through the PMG. She edited the Methodology Update 2017. She also conducts research about Indigenous development at ANU’s Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research. Previous roles include lecturing at RMIT and Deakin Universities, and Executive Director of the Australian Council for International Development and the International Women’s Development Agency.
Mandy co-leads the Indonesia IDM study and leads the IDM index construction review. She has undertaken quantitative social science research in wellbeing and social exclusion, health, disability and ageing, indigenous socio-economic outcomes, income distribution, fertility and family formation and model building, involving national and international research collaboration. Mandy is an Australian Endeavour Fellow and is co-authoring a book on Indigenous Peoples and the Capability Approach.
Joyce is a gender specialist and provides gender analysis of the IDM findings. Joyce is a Fulbright Senior Scholar and has gender and development experience in both research and practitioner context.
Angie Bexley is an anthropologist currently working on childhood poverty, gender and intolerance in Indonesia. Angie has developed a unique collaborative and inter-disciplinary approach to her research over the last twenty years working across international development, art and culture in Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
Trang is responsible for data analysis, contributing to the design and implementation of IDM studies, and developing enumerator training materials. Trang has worked on Impact Evaluation, Community Driven Development, Poverty Reduction and Social Accountability with the World Bank in Vietnam, Timor-Leste and Cambodia. Her research interests include the Capability Approach, Multidimensional Poverty, Vulnerability, Evidence-based Policy, and Research Methods. She is a Co-Primary Investigator for the Impact Evaluation of the Voice and Action Project of the World Bank in Cambodia.
Helen Suich is a senior research fellow in the IDM programme at the Crawford School of Public Policy, and she leads the South Africa IDM study. Her research focuses on issues of poverty alleviation, examining the impacts of rural development interventions on multidimensional poverty and vulnerability. Helen has extensive field experience across southern Africa and in Indonesia. She has worked at the University of Oxford, for the Namibian government, for non government organisations and as an independent consultant.
